EMAGAHA, INC. believes that being knowledgeable about public health issues will enable an individual to protect themselves and in turn educate their communities. We offer a variety of programs that will encourage each individual to reach their highest potential by exposing them to professional and personal development activities.

mADE: Mentoring among diverse ethnicities

The ability to lead effectively and engage in careful, reflective thinking is a necessary component of an educated person’s fundamental characteristic, which allows them to be productive citizens, and equally important, compete for employment.  The purpose of this program is to hone in and sharpen leadership and logical thinking skills.  During this program an individual will learn about effective leadership skills and practices that will make them successful leaders. Exploring one’s personality and personas through leadership and logical thinking training will allow him or her to become their best self.  This purposed program activity will be offered quarterly.

CULTURAL COMPETENCY

This program will incorporate strategies for interacting with persons of diverse backgrounds.  The core of this program will focus on

1) Cultural knowledge: Individuals will develop familiarity with specific cultures and identify ways, in which they differ from one’s own,

2) Cultural interaction: Engage in dialogue that will teach ways in which one should interact and communicate with other cultures, and

3) Cultural sensitivity: Recognize the role cultural, social, and behavioral factors play in the accessibility, availability, acceptability, and delivery of public health services, recognize the impact of privilege, inequality, and oppression and identify historical and sociological influences on specific cultural interactions.

Individuals in this program will engage in culturally diverse settings and practice strategies for successful intercultural communication in professional and personal settings. This purposed program activity will be offered on a quarterly basis.       

3. FINANCIAL MANAGEMENT

Financial planning and management skills are necessary for survival.  Achieving financial success takes preparation and planning.  Making money, covering expenses, and managing money are critical to one’s financial freedom.  Becoming and staying debt free, managing credit card debt, and learning the importance of saving should be a part of everyone’s financial plan.  The purpose of this program is to teach basic financial planning and management skills that will allow for the development of effective methods of money management. Planning for the future, setting a budget, and investing and saving will focal points of this program.  Individuals will also be taught how to open a checking and savings account. This purposed program activity will take place twice a year. 

4. SUSTAINABLE HEALTH

This program will focus on a healthier you.  In order to be an effective leader, think logically, plan for the future and interactive in a culturally diverse world, one must first be healthy.  The purpose of this program is to educate and promote health awareness on chronic and infectious diseases and teach prevention efforts.  Individuals will also have the opportunity to learn about specific testing (i.e. HIV/AIDS and STD testing and prostate screening). The promotion of daily exercise and proper nutrition will also be incorporated. This purposed program activity will be provided throughout the year.
